The heat dome is putting central and eastern US Americans under pressure as temperatures break into the triple digits.
By Rosalie Roney

A meteorological phenomenon known as a heat dome is parked over the central and eastern U.S., trapping scorching air beneath a high-pressure system. Major cities including New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington D.C., Baltimore, and others have shattered June heat records. Temperatures are as high as 105°F in Baltimore and triple-digits in Boston and NYC. Some regions are reeling under heat index values nearing 110°F, creating life-threatening conditions.
This intense June heat is part of a global trend. June has been unusually hot worldwide; marking the 13th straight month of record-warm seas and air temperatures.
Health emergencies are spiking, power grids are strained and infrastructure damage is imminent. Here's what ITN suggests:
Stay hydrated.
Rest in air-conditioned spaces.
Reduce outdoor activity during peak heat.
Be vigilant about heat stroke and exhaustion symptoms—seek medical attention if needed.
Check on vulnerable friends, family, and neighbors.
Avoid leaving pets or children unattended in cars—even for a few minutes.
Follow local alerts and be aware of thunderstorm risks late in the day.
